Tom Yum Soup Recipe

Tom Yum (ต้มยำ) is one of the most famous and powerful Thai soup.

The flavors of lemongrass, galangal, kaffir lime leaves, fresh Thai chilies, cilantro and lime juice that all combine to create the authentic, fresh and healthy Thai soothing broth that will light up your taste buds.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of water

  • 4-6 oz chicken sliced or shrimp that prepared and ready to use

  • 1 tablespoon roasted chili paste or tom yum paste

  • half stalks lemongrass sliced

  • 3 slice galangal root

  • 3-5 kaffir lime leaves

  • 1-3 Thai fresh chilies (if you like more spicy)

  • Two handful fresh mushrooms sliced

  • 1 roma tomato sliced

  • ¼  red onion sliced

  • 1 tablespoon sugar

  • 2-4 tablespoons of fish sauce (depending on your taste)

  • 2-4 tablespoons of lime juice

  • Handful of fresh chopped cilantro

Instructions

  1. Bring water to boil in a pot

  2. Add red onion, tomato, chili or tom yum paste lemongrass, galangal, kaffir lime leaves and Thai bird chilies (prik kee noo) if you like the chili flavor

  3. Boil your soup with all the herbs in it for about 3-5 minutes, and you can go ahead add chicken then stir

  4. add mushrooms, and let boil for about 2-3 minutes.

  5. Add fish sauce, sugar then turn off the heat and

  6. add lime juice and cilantro to finish for more fresher and vibrant taste

 

Tip: Make sure you taste until your tom yum is perfectly sour and salty. You might need to add more fish sauce, sugar, or lime juice. You now have the delicious Tom Yum (ต้มยำ
